Ontario Scenic Ice Caves in the Almaguin Highlands

Over the weekend my family and I decided to go snowmobiling from Sand Lake. It was a great day on the snowmobile trails. The weather was fantastic and the snow conditions were perfect. A few kids ride in the caboose and one child rides with Dad on the snowmobile.
It is fun to enjoy the four seasons in Ontario, Canada. There are so many winter activities you can do with your children. It is easy to suffer from winter blues so why not get out and enjoy what Ontario in the Almaguin Highlands has to offer.
The Almaguin Higlands north of Muskoka is known to always have exceptional snow conditions every year. Our trail system is well used by cross country skiers and snowmobilers. Many Resorts, Cottages, Private Cottages, Motels and other accommodations are always full around here so everyone can take advantage of our trail system.
We started out from Sand Lake Cottages & Inn and we headed towards Sandhurst Resort. The first trail we hit was AL307 towards the D trail. We took the D trail for a short distance until we exited to the AL301 trail towards the Scenic Ice Caves. The total distance to Kearney Ice Caves was 18km one way. During the summer it is a waterfall but during the winter you see beautiful Ice Caves. The kids like to go behind the frozen waterfall and have lots of fun. The OFSC sometimes hosts their annual barbecue here in March for the snowmobilers to enjoy.
After leaving the Almaguin Highlands Ice Caves we travel another 20km back in the same direction and head to Edgewater Park Lodge on Sand Lake to enjoy lunch at their restaurant.
This fun day only takes us about 3 hours in total and the kids have a blast.
The Kearney Ice Caves are located close to Algonquin Provincial Park.
